Davido On Wizkid Beef: “If I See Him, We Might Greet, We Might Not…Who Cares”

The exchange of words has stopped fortunately but the two young superstar singers are still harboring beef for each other.

When an upcoming media brand, The Culture Custodians sat down with the 21 year old pop star at his studio in Lagos for an in depth interview, the major highlight was his war with Wizkid and their rivalry.

During the interview, Davido couldn’t help but take some subliminal jabs at Wizkid

Take for instance, when he was asked for a release date for his album, Davido replied, “Me I no dey change date” , one can see that statement as a reference to the perpetual changes in the release date of Wizkid’s second studio album, something Bank W recently addressed.

He may also have subbed Wizzy when he spoke about how he has helped promote other artistes,

‘Being the frontrunner, everything is God. God puts you in the position you’re in at all times and then you have to help the people. It’s why I’ve done collabos with Runtown, MC Galaxy (He was the first person in my studio and now has one of the hottest songs around). The list goes on. Diamond, I put him on in Africa. It’s just about making sure everyone is eating. Shoutout to Reminisce. Just bought a Benz. And he’s got the Samsung deal. It’s amazing knowing your vocals and your support contributed to other people’s success. That’s really how you stay at your position. That’s why Tu Baba (Tu Face Idibia) is where he is cos he f**ks with everyone. Unlike some people who will just be doing shakara. I don’t want to call any names.’

And that was not all… Davido’s label-mate, B-Red had recently been promoting a single which featured Wizkid just before the social media war of words between Davido and Wizkid started off.…after the shots were thrown B-Red went radio silent on the Wizkid collabo and instead started promoting a new single with Phyno – ‘IHATAGO’ set for release later today.

When Davido was asked about why he pulled the plug on the collab, he laughed it off and said,

“I’m not sure between him and Wiz. I think it didn’t work out but I’m not sure.”

When asked what he would do if he bumped into Wizkid and his response leaves no doubt that there is still no love lost between the two.

‘If I see him. Whatever. It depends on the situation, it doesn’t matter. We might greet. We might not. Who cares?

P-Square:The incredible lives of two amazing performers

Sensational R&B duo singers, Peter and Paul Okoye, need no further introduction to Nigerians. These ones have contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian music industry and to Africa at large.

Their genre of music can better be described as R&B and they are the reason Nigerians still believe that group singing has its advantage. One or two of their fans still see them as the spitting likeness of the American super star, Usher Raymond, for their similar looks, pattern of dressing and style of singing.

Today, they have written songs, they are performers and their songs and albums have won lots of applause both in Nigeria and outside, and has raked in billions of naira. They are the highest-paid group and performers in Africa.

They are also the biggest spenders. They have made millions, bought expensive cars, jets, and out-of-this-world mansions, both in Nigeria and the United States. In each of their wedding ceremonies, millions were expended as the likes of Aliko Dangote; oil mogul, Foloronsho Alakija; Genevieve Nnaji; Kate Henshaw; Don Jazzy and his amiable team, were invited for the occasion.

Expensive drinks, rich and surplus food and amazing gifts items where the order of each at their wedding. We bring to you, the famous P Square’. Although, there have been some undisclosed issues between the duos, but that hasn’t crippled their strength, wealth and  fame.

Enjoy!

The identical twin brothers known as P-Square were born 33 years ago, precisely on November 18th, 1981, in Jos, Plateau state of Nigeria, although they are Ibos by tribe, from Ifite Dunu in Anambra State of Nigeria. The duos have their own record label. They are songwriters and amazing performers.

Their story started out at St. Mulumba Secondary School, where the twins were members of the school music and drama.

That was where they began singing, dancing, and mimicking songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and the ever green, Michael Jackson. They produced and released their albums through Square Records. Since then, they have remained active in music production.

Along the line, they formed an a cappella quartet group called “MMMPP”, M Clef, a.k.a, Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul.

Their inspiration was drawn from their music idol, Michael Jackson, hence they learnt to dance break dance and formed a group known as the “Smooth Criminals” in 1997. M Clef later dropped from the group leaving behind “MMPP”. The MMPP group was so talented and precise in their dancing routine.

It made them famous in the city of Jos, Plateau state as they performed at school functions and other occasions. When they left Secondary School, the MMPP group couldn’t thrive, but the group didn’t breakup until they went to study in different universities.

Peter and Paul in 1999 returned to music school to develop their skills on musical instruments. Today, they have had lots of soundtracks even for movies like Mama Sunday, Tobi, Moment of Bitterness and Evas River.

They also enrolled to further their education in 1999 at the University of Abuja where they studied Business Administration.

It was there the group, Smooth Criminals got dissolved as the members as its members were registered in different Universities. Peter and Paul eventually tried their hands on different stage names like the Double P, the P&P, Da Pees and finally settled for “P Square.” They were managed by Bayo Odusami, aka Howie T, a seasoned concert promoter.

Challenges/ achievements

After graduation, the twins moved into Lagos state and since they didn’t plan on using their degrees to search for jobs, they struggled to carve a niche for themselves in the music world.

They sang in events and shows for free, went from oneTV house to another, from one radio station to another, from one newspaper house to another, begging for publicity. Because they knew what they had bottled in them. Here and there, they did odd jobs to survive while praying for the big break.

They won the “Grab Da Mic” competition in 2001, and got sponsored by Benson & Hedges to launch their debut album, Last Nite. That same year, P-Square was also nominated as “Most Promising African Group” in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album.

They also won the 2003 Amen Award for “Best R&B Group”. They are still the best R&B group till date. They have performed alongside some international artists like Sean Paul, Akon, Ginuwine and Busola Keshiro.

In December 2011, P Square signed a multi-million naira record contract with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label. In May 2012, they also signed another multi- million naira record distribution contract with Universal Music in South Africa.

Charity

The stars were currently in Tanzania for their world tour. And they decided to help the needy. As part of their social responsibility, they  collaborated with Vodacom foundation and donated to the less-privileged and mentally challenged in Tanzania and others that they do yearly in commemoration of their birthdays.

Properties

It is worthy of note that the twins have a way of duplicating whatever the other twin decides to buy as they are identical twins. This is seen in the purchasing and building of twins’ houses and mansions everywhere they go. One of their properties is their twin mansions worth over 500 million on Lola Holloway Street, Omole Estate Phase 1, in Lagos state. Another of their property is another twin duplex bought in the United State of American worth billion of naira.

Cars

It is not different when it comes to purchasing cars as their taste is almost alike. They have cars in the league of millions of naira. Cars such as the BMW X6, Range Rover Sports, the Jaguars, the Hummer jeeps of this world, the Prado jeeps and much more. You could actually get a filled day glancing at the beauties worth million of naira.

Clothes/ accessories and perfumes

When it comes to good clothes, perfumes, shoes and accessories, P Square do not blink when they spend millions of naira collecting them. You cannot see what they wear on any down the road boutique. Their clothes are customized for them; sometimes their colognes are customized as well. They buy their shoes from stores only the very rich can afford.

Dream comes true for Sukwene

A FEW years ago, Idols winner Musa Sukwene attended the Tribute to SA Music Heroes Concert at Moretele Park in Mamelodi, Pretoria, as a spectator.

He had gone there to see his favourite artist Simphiwe Dana.

But, tomorrow the 27-year-old will get a chance to taste the thrill of being cheered by hundreds of music lovers.

It looks like his dream of performing at the historic jazz event has come earlier than he had expected. And Sukwene is not intimidated by the strong line-up of established jazz, Afro-pop and traditional artists, or the atmosphere itself.

Instead, he says he cannot wait to get on stage and get revellers off their camping chairs. "I'm really excited to be included in a line-up full of talented and famous South African legends. I used to go to the festival with my brother and I know the atmosphere."

He adds: "I am looking forward to the performance and I think I'm prepared for this gig. I will give it my all."

Now in its 17th season, this year's concert will see Sukwene perform alongside South African giants like Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Jonas Gwangwa, Thomas Chauke, Letta Mbulu, Johnny Clegg, Bhudaza, Mafikizolo, Zonke, Lira and Mi Casa.

During last year's Idols season nine, which Sukwene won, he sang one of crooner Ringo Madlingozi's hit songs, Ndiyagodola, and impressed the at-times-hard-to-please judges. Throughout the music talent competition, Sukwene emerged early on as a baladeer and through that gained lots of fans.

When he was announced as the winner, he performed Ndiyagodola yet again and got a standing ovation.

On Sunday, he will share the stage with his hero Madlingozi. "I have performed with him before. We did a Valentine's gig together. Ringo knows that I appreciate his music because my brother plays drums for him."

Born in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, Sukwene shot into fame nine months ago when he beat close competitor Brenden Ledwaba by 1000 votes in a tightly contested Idols competition.

In April, he released his debut album The Dream, produced by Robbie Malinga.

Sukwene says the album was well received and that he dedicated the rest of this year to promoting it. "As long as I continue working hard and remain grounded, I should do well," he says.

Winning Idols, to an extent, made it easy for him to launch his music career faster than other musicians.

Ever since he won the competition, he has been inundated with invitations to perform around the country. His schedule, he explains, is so hectic he normally performs three to four times in a week.

Sukwene is quick to point out that there are no shortcuts in the music industry and that it is all about hard work. "I have been putting a lot of hard work. I know that God has blessed me with a beautiful voice and I just need to look after it."

He hinted that there are a number of collaborations that he has lined up for next year. One of the artists who has shown interest in working with him is the legendary Steve Kekana.

Sukwene says when he got the call that Kekana wanted to do a song with him, he was over the moon.

Let’s win the war against Ebola- Rita dominics

Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic is one of the celebrities who is having sleepless nights over the spread of the Ebola virus in the country.

The actress took to her Twitter handle to share details about the Ebola containment Trust Fund which she has set up with trustees such as Dr. Alero Roberts, Christopher Kolade, Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the Hosue on the Rock church, Mr. Felix Ohiwerei and Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, advising Nigerians on the need to unite and fight the common enemy than engaging in bickering.

Her tweets: “Hey guys, we now have a legitimate Ebola Containment Trust Fund, a non-profit body created to galvanize necessary resources to contain Ebola.” “Let us get together and fight this problem and stop all the bickering.

This is for those who have been looking for a way to help out.” Also, the diva tweeted: “We have been searching for something like this for a while and I am happy that some concerned people actually created this.”

The objectives of the fund are to collaborate with governments and its agencies in their efforts to contain the virus, and harness the creativity and enterprise of the private sector to execute the emergency purchase and deployment of necessary supplies and personnel in the support of the containment endeavour.

It is also to engage citizens on media and social platforms aimed at educating and informing Lagos residents, visitors and private hospitals about Ebola. Dominic said the fund is currently working on its website and would make available a hotline for telephone enquiries.

Fernando Torres agrees to leave Chelsea for Milan on free transfer

Fernando Torres, who signed for Chelsea for £50m in 2011, is heading for Milan for no fee

Fernando Torres is to have a medical at Milan on Saturday after agreement was reached between the Italian club, Chelsea and the player's representatives to smooth what is, in effect, a free transfer.

The Spain striker, who cost a British record £50m when he signed from Liverpool in January 2011, will leave England after seven seasons in the Premier League and sign a two-year deal at San Siro after agreeing a compromise over his wage demands. He was initially reluctant to lower his £175,000-a-week salary.

Chelsea had been pushing the 30-year-old to make a decision to ensure they had enough time to secure a replacement before Monday's transfer deadline and moves are being explored for the Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy and Roma's forward Mattia Destro.

The latter would cost at least £20m, with the Italian club instinctively resistant to losing a key player so close to the cut-off. Rémy, in contrast, has a buyout clause in his contract set at £8.5m for clubs who finished in the top four last season and is therefore a far simpler option to pursue.

Another target, Monaco's Radamel Falcao, is expected to join Real Madrid on loan for the year. Chelsea are intent on ending the window with three senior forwards and, having sanctioned Torres's departure, have no option but to re-enter the market.

There is no fee involved in the Torres deal and Chelsea describe it as a two-year loan for a player who struggled to justify the record fee that had prised him from Anfield. However, they will take some comfort from saving upwards of £15m in wages over the two years that were remaining on his contract. It is understood he will depart without a pay-off to replace Mario Balotelli at San Siro.

There was an admission from Jose Mourinho that, while Torres has not been unhappy over his three and a half seasons at Chelsea – he played his part in winning the Champions League and Europa League in that time – a fresh start may suit a player who would have been third choice at Stamford Bridge.

"I don't think a sad person can work the way he does, can be as professional as he is," Mourinho said. "He works so hard, is so professional, is so stable in his personal life. I don't see a sad man. But when I speak about happiness, I mean football happiness. Football feeling: more self-confidence, not the need to feel under pressure, not to feel he has to deliver and that all eyes are on him because of a big transfer fee. All these kind of things.

"Probably the move would create for him a different start. If he wants to leave, it would be because he wants to try a new life. A new club. Probably a new league. To try to be happier than he was in the last couple of years. Chelsea is a very human club in the way the club approaches this kind of situation. Any possibility would be analysed by us as a club and the best decision for him. But I don't think his time here has been sad. He won a few things, scored a few important goals. So I don't look at this history as being negative."

Yet Torres's career in south-west London rarely hit the personal heights of his time at Liverpool, most notably under Rafael Benitez. Prolific on Merseyside, scoring 65 league goals in 102 appearances, he had arrived at Chelsea feeling the effects of previous knee problems and struggled to adapt to the style of play adopted by successive managers.

Arguably the highlight of his time at the club was a dramatic, injury-time equaliser in the Champions League semi-final at Barcelona in 2012 – he was a late substitute in the final – though he did score the opener in the Europa League final against Benfica the following year.

Chelsea will move swiftly to secure a replacement and, by bringing in another non-homegrown player, will still have to trim one foreigner from their roster. They have 18 in their squad, with 17 permitted under Premier League rules. Marco van Ginkel or Mohamed Salah are the most likely to go on loan.

Mourinho said: "We thought the market was closed for us but, if Nando opened that market, we would have to go into it again. We would try to make the best possible deal."

"We'll react by buying a foreign striker because I don't see an English striker in the market that would come to us, or where his club would let him. If we lose a foreign striker, we need another foreign striker."

Destro will remain a long-term target regardless of events over the next 72 hours. Of the Italy international, a youth-team player at Internazionale when Mourinho won the 2010 European Cup, the manager said: "Mattia was a kid when I was at Inter and was playing in our under-21s, training with us so many times. Everyone knew his potential was there to be a top striker. He was unlucky because we had Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano, then Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito. He didn’t have a chance because we were full of top strikers."

Torres, who scored only 20 goals in 110 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, has not featured this season and has lost his place in the Spain squad for their games against France and Macedonia next month. He would not have started at Everton on Saturday – when Chelsea will confront their former forwards Romelu Lukaku and Samuel Eto'o – despite doubts still surrounding Diego Costa’s ability to begin the game after suffering a slight hamstring injury in training.

The Brazil-born striker completed a light training session on Friday and travelled to Merseyside with the squad. Drogba will step in if Costa is deemed not fit enough to start.

'We will shut down parliament'

EFF leader Julius Malema on Friday night called on National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete not to push the party to shut down Parliament.

"One thing Baleka Mbete does not realise is that if all opposition walk out, they will have to collapse the Parliament," he told party members in Boksburg, on the East Rand, during a women's month event.

"They must not push us to that level because we will go and have elections again."

He was reacting to Mbete's threat to suspend Economic Freedom Fighters MPs from Parliament following their heckling of President Jacob Zuma in Parliament last Thursday.

EFF MPs disrupted questions to Zuma in the National Assembly by chanting "pay back the money" and then refusing to leave the House when Mbete ordered them out.

Malema said opposition parties on Friday showed unity when they put their differences aside and refused to select a chairperson for the Nkandla ad hoc committee. They first wanted the committee's mandate reworked to expressly include Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's findings on the R246 million spent on security at Zuma's Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, homestead.

Malema said suspension would not silence the party. They would use the time to launch more branches.

"Jacob Zuma must know that the time for laughing in Parliament is over. He must give the right answers or what happened will continue. Suspend us and when we come back, we will start from where we left off," Malema said.

Mbete has written to each of the 25 EFF MPs individually to give reasons why they should not be barred from the legislature for up to two weeks for disrupting presidential question time.

Malema earlier on Friday threatened to take the matter to court should Mbete not withdraw her plans to suspend his MPs by noon on Sunday.

He blamed the African National Congress for the formation of his party. If the ruling party thought the EFF was a problem, it had created the problem, he said.

Malema said his organisation was making MPs think twice when they had to account to Parliament.

Nigerians to enjoy steady power by Oct-FG

The Federal Government, Friday, said plans have been put in place to ensure steady supply of electricity in the country by October 2014.

Minister of Power, Professor Chenedu Nebo who briefed State House Correspondents in Abuja said government has made efforts to ensure constant availability of gas at power stations to boast power generation.

Professor Nebo, who spoke after a meeting on power stakeholders at the presidential villa, Abuja, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo, added that the debt owed power generation companies would also be cleared.

He said “The generation companies have been complaining that they need to have all their bills paid. The good thing about this is that arrangements are being made to make sure that all the generation companies get their money as at when due.

“We are working on that. That is part of the meeting that was chaired by Mr Vice President.

“Next thing is how far we have come with the issue of even settling the gas question. The gas question has remained for quite a while. But very thankfully, the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources and I, the central bank governor and chairman of NERC met severally to address those issues.

“And that eventually ended in finding resources to take care of the indebtedness of the generation companies to the gas companies.

“So once we take care of the backlog, we insist that the gas companies will eventually produce more gas.’’

He maintained that there are visible signs of government’s efforts to ensure constant electricity supply across the country in the past one week following improved gas supply.

“The cheering news from all of these is that if you have noticed throughout the country in the past one week people have been getting much better power supply.

“The gas is now beginning to come back and it’s something that gives all of us a lot of joy. And we know that it will continue to grow that way even until December because now some of the facilities, maintenance, repair works on the gas equipment and so on”. He added.

“The gas producers have come to a place where almost all of these is being taken care of, and then the new gas we are expecting we have then trickling in right now.

“So that part of the shortfalls we’ve had in production up to this time, we hope that by the beginning of October, we will see a much better stabilisation of the entire power delivery system in the country.

Speaking on generation capacity, Nebo noted that power supply have hovered around 4,500 mega watts.

His words, “First, I would say we rejoice that for the first time in a long time we have been averaging over 4,500 MW when we include nearly 300 mw of spilling reserve which is always put there to make sure that the reliability and stability of the grid is ensured at all time.

“So, we are really moving forward; it may not be as rapidly as Nigerians expect but it is important to let everybody know that indeed we are advancing, we are making progress and we will continue to make progress”.

Chelsea will attempt to thrash out the departure of £50 million flop Fernando Torres on Friday, but face a race against time to replace him with Roma forward Mattia Destro.

The representatives of Torres are in England to speak with Chelsea officials about the terms of the Spaniard’s exit to AC Milan.

Chelsea are hoping to negotiate a permanent deal for Torres, rather than a loan, that will finally free them of his £175,000-a-week wages for good. But Torres, who is interested in moving to Milan, and his representatives believe the striker is entitled to a severance payment because he has two years remaining on his contract.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has already targeted Destro to replace Torres as the club’s third-choice striker behind Diego Costa and Didier Drogba. It is understood that there has already been a meeting between Chelsea and Roma over Destro. But the Italian club are under no pressure to sell after securing £24  million from Bayern Munich for central defender Medhi Benatia.

Roma would also want a replacement lined up before agreeing to let £19  million-rated Destro go so late in the transfer window. The 23-year-old’s wages would not be a problem for Chelsea, as he earns around £25,000 a week in Italy.

Other than Destro, Chelsea could look at Porto’s Jackson Martinez or even Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy.

Chelsea are ready to make one more signing before the transfer window shuts on Monday night. Replacing Torres with Destro would not help their foreign player problem and would still leave the club with one too many overseas stars.

Petr Cech is preparing himself to fight for the goalkeeper position with Thibaut Courtois until January, which means Marco van Ginkel could still leave on loan, even though he is not keen on joining Milan.

Chelsea’s interest in Destro and willingness to let Torres leave is not linked to the fitness of Costa, who suffered a hamstring problem on Wednesday.

Costa did not train with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Thursday as the club continued to assess the extent of the problem, but he has not yet given up hope of playing against Everton on Saturday.

Torres is yet to play a single minute this season and his former Chelsea team-mate Demba Ba believes the 30-year-old needs to follow him out of Stamford Bridge to 'find happiness'. Atletico Madrid have also inquired about taking their former forward back on loan.

Ba quit Chelsea this summer to join Turkish club Besiktas after becoming frustrated at sitting next to Torres on the Chelsea substitutes’ bench.

"I wish Fernando the best, I just wish he is going to find happiness,” said Ba. “I don’t know where he will be happy, but I just want him to have happiness because he is a nice guy.” Asked whether Torres can find happiness at Chelsea, Ba added: “Hard.”

Ba defended Torres against accusations of being happy to collect his astronomical Chelsea wages from the sidelines.

"It is difficult to sit on the bench, because what you like to do is play football,” Ba said. “It’s hard when you are always on the bench, but you just have to keep your head up and work hard.

"People think footballers are happy to just take money, but we are in training every day, every single day we are working hard. People only see the 90 minutes we play at the weekend and they see the money we are spending. Of course, we have a lot of money but if we have the money it is because the money is there.

"Of course, we are happy to make a lot of money and, of course, a lot of people would love to be in our position, but they are not because they do not have the quality to be there.

"I could have stayed at Chelsea and just kept collecting the money. I would have been in a better position this season because I spoke to Jose and he was impressed with the end of the season I had. He told me I would be in a better position this season, but I just wanted to go and enjoy myself.”

Ba and Besiktas were knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal and the 29-year-old revealed how he dreamed of playing for the Gunners while he was a Chelsea player.

Arsenal tried to sign Ba on loan last summer, but Chelsea blocked the transfer and the Senegal international believes he could have helped solve the club’s current striker crisis following Olivier Giroud’s injury.

Asked how close he came to joining Arsenal, Ba said: “As close as you and me here, but it’s past. I just look forward.

"I wanted to join Arsenal. Even when I was in Chelsea, everybody knew that I wanted to come to Arsenal. I could have maybe waited longer in this transfer window, but I wanted to go and play for Besiktas because it’s a great club. Last summer, Jose wanted to keep me, but he said this time if I had any opportunity he would let me go. But I’m happy here at Besiktas.”
